Creative Thinking

In the lecture on Wednesday, I remember someone talking about narcoleptic soccer- where people randomly fall asleep throughout the game. I think this would be a great add-on to one of the ideas I came up with, No-sleep November. After a long month of not sleeping, I cannot think of a better way to end it than playing a game of soccer. These two events pretty much go hand in hand, because after a month of not sleeping, most people would likely pass out playing a game of soccer. I could imagine this as something like an ancient ritual of a long-ago culture, maybe as a coming of age test. The manliest men would be the ones who could get through the month and win the game of soccer.

  1. Aye Cory, I fully agree with you. Nothing like a good soccer match when you're about to pass out. This will really separate the men from the boys.

  2. This would be so much fun. If it were done with just a group of guys, it would a great bonding experience between everyone and because the game comes after the no sleep november everyone would be able to participate if they wanted to. Of course the game would probably be the worst game ever played, but that just makes it that much more interesting.

  3. That is a very interesting idea you’ve come up with. While this idea tickles my imagination, I don’t think many people would be able to achieve this in real life—in fact, it’s dangerous and I wouldn’t recommend it. If people forced themselves to stay awake for an entire month, I would expect them to have bad health conditions and possibly develop a sleep disorder. My parents told me once that when a person suffers extended lack of sleep, he or she may experience a drunken-like state while trying to stay awake. If lack of sleep has symptoms similar to that of intoxication, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the people were literally half-dead by the end of the month.

  4. Dear Cory,
No sleep November and narcoleptic soccer both sound like really fun things to watch, but really painful events to participate in. I can't imagine not sleeping for a month or participating in a soccer game where people randomly fall asleep on the soccer field, let alone both of them together. However if this is some ritual to prove the "manliness" of men, then all I have to say is I am glad I am not a man!
